2 unknown device d manager

2 Unknown device in d. manager

A big yellow question mark (other device) on two devices ???? All upgrade done. Display drivers OK . Nvidia drivers seem ok. Reading details driver i see " ACPI\PnpB006" but ACPI seeems already installed... does anybody know something about ??? (Asus A8NE NF4 Ultra on Athlon X2 4400+) -- thanks in advance Nicolas

I have the same issue with ?Other Devices and 2 ?Unknown Devices. I am thinking that it is both the onboard audio and the PS2 ports as both of those are unused on my system. I tested both the onboard audio and PS2 ports and they do not work. I looked through the Device Manager thoroughly and it appears all of the main hardware installed correctly except for the PS2 ports and onboard Audio. It's not that big of a concern to me as I have my OEM drivers CD if I ever need to install the factory drivers, so I just disabled them so they won't cause any issues. It would be nice to know which one is which though, meaning is the top ?unknown device the PS2 ports or Audio? I really don't recommend forcing drivers on an ?unknown device entry in the device manager as this causes major system instability even if it is the correct device that you install the drivers for. But if you are really picky about these entries in your device manager, here are some troubleshooting tips. Reboot and when the computer is starting up press the F8 key, it helps to keep tapping it, and from the Startup menu choose Safe Mode. In Safe Mode have a look in the Device Manager to see if any more information about the devices are revealed. If not, restart into Windows Normal Startup and go to the Device Manager and right click on the entries and uninstall them. Load all device drivers for the devices you suspect are causing the issue from the Drivers/Utilities CD that came with your motherboard/computer. It can help to click on View and then select Show Hidden Devices, which will reveal the non-plug and play drivers, so you can look to see if the drivers loaded correctly. Personally, if Vista didn't recognize a few of my ports/devices and I don't use them anyway, I would just disable the unknown devices and forget about it. -- If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished!

Nicolas: One is the joystick gameport. The other one is the MIDI port. I thought that the driver for those ports had to be searched on the mobo or the sound card. Surprisingly I have seen that in Windows x64 it Microsoft who supplied the drivers for those ports. Seems they have forgotten to do so in Vista. Will cause no trouble if you use an USB joystick (instead of an "old" joystick) and can live without an external MIDI keyboard/instrument. Carlos

nothing to do... i tryed but my unknown devices are still there... I think they are game port and another one like midi as Carlos says. I will re-try ... Anyway this Windows Vista seems a little heavy... I have a 4400+ and seems to me hardly sufficient... I am probably a little nervous. I like speedy computers, ready to answer back ... :) Thanks for the follow-up.
Sorry for my bad english. I am italian... :)
ciao
